LUCKY 15 SELECTIONS

PEACHEY CARNEHAN (Wolverhampton 4.35) has had plenty of chances to get off the mark and has been expensive to follow, but the fitting of a visor last time appeared to galvanise the Michael Attwater-trained three-year-old and he was just headed late on by Touch Me in a 7f maiden at Lingfield. That was a fair front-running effort, particularly in light of the fact the vet found he had lost a left-hind shoe. Adam Kirby retains the ride for this extended 7f maiden and while it is a slight step up in class, several of his six rivals have a bit to find on the book.

HAMMERSLEY LAKE (Doncaster 1.30) has won one of his five starts over fences, that success coming at Market Rasen in August on his second try (he fell on his chasing debut in October 2015). He was rated 145 over hurdles, but is just finding his way over the bigger obstacles. However, Nicky Henderson felt he was experienced enough to run in a 2m Grade 2 at Cheltenham in November, when he was not fluent early on in finishing a four-length runner-up to Le Prezien. There was a lot to like about his last start, when a close-up third to stablemate Top Notch in a graduation chase over 2m5f at Ascot and a repeat of that form would see him in the mix today, as he takes on five rivals in a 2m3f novices’ chase, despite conceding 6lb to his rivals.

CHANDRESH (Lingfield Park 3.20) is never going to set the world alight as a sprinter, but there has been plenty of signs he may finally break his duck very soon after 15 unsuccessful attempts. Robert Cowell’s four-year-old has a modest rating of 48 and he has appeared better at 5f than over further, particularly in a couple of recent runs, when beaten just over a length by Captain Scooby at Kempton in November and latterly when runner-up to Secret Bird at Wolverhampton. If blinkers work for a second time and if taking to the Polytrak (the fastest British all-weather surface), he holds a fair chance of taking the 5f handicap.

I JUST KNOW (Doncaster 3.10) can land the 3m novices’ limited handicap for Sue Smith. An Irish point-to-point winner, the seven-year-old opened his account under Rules when taking a 3m soft-ground novices’ handicap chase off a mark of 105 in November. He was not unfairly treated by the handicapper when finishing runner-up to Emerald Rose next time in a 3m handicap chase at Market Rasen off a mark of 114. There was nothing wrong with his 2l defeat by the decent mare Two Smokin Barrels in a 3m novices’ limited handicap at Wetherby last time, either. Though he takes on some decent rivals in a similar race today, he goes off the same mark and should find some improvement on the good ground.
